Welcome to 6th grade science! My name is Mr. Franks, I have been teaching 6th grade science at OWN since 2008. I went to school at Syracuse University for both under and grad school. I am a Lead Teacher at the American Museum of Natural History with Urban Advantage. Throughout the year we are going to cover a variety of topics. Our curriculum will be reinforced with hands on activities and observations. I look forward to working with and getting to know all parents and students throughout the year. Lets have a great year!
Our current unit of study is Models and Designs. We are exploring why and how scientists use models in their work. We also talk about the scientific method and the engineering & design process. In Q1 we also focus on basic scientific skills of measuring length, mass, area, volume and converting metric units.
**Please feel free to research any of the above topics on your own and encourage your children to do so as well.**
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 718-274-2902 ext. 109
